__DEAR PARENTS
A. Every Weekend
1. Check your child's Progress Report (example). Make sure at least one teacher has signed it during office hours.
2. Sign the Progress Report. Make sure your child returns it to their Advisor on Monday. They will receive detention if they don't.
B. Every Week at Home
1. Workspace: make sure your child has a quiet workspace at home for 2-3 hours of work each evening.
2. Design Workspace: Divide the table or desk in half:
- Periods 1, 2, 3 - Assignments / Textbooks on LEFT side of workspace
- Periods 4, 5, 6 - Assignments / Textbooks on RIGHT side of workspace
3. Weekends:
- Focus on the two or three most difficult subjects on Saturday / Sunday. Review each subject.
- Plan the week with your child. What office hours should they attend?
4. Study Skills Support : Please take one hour to look through this site. It can help your child greatly with study habits. Give it a try!
C. Homework
1. Prioritize
Help your child prioritize their homework. Ask them: "What assignments are due tomorrow?" Take a look at their agenda book and help them get started.
2. Review
Whether your child has actual assigned homework or not, THEY HAVE HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT!!! Its called REVIEW. They need to work a minimum of 90 minutes every other night on homework and/or review the subject's textbook.
3. Homework Check
Check your child's agenda book. Your child may use their advisor - Mr. Kannofsky - to look over their work and receive advice prior to turning in the work.
D. SATs/ACTs
- SAT prep: The SAT consists of four sections; critical reading, mathematics, writing, and a variable or equating section.
- Testing Dates
SAT
- December 6
- January 24
- March 14 – Optional for students in any grade
- May 2 – Juniors will take them at Animo Venice H.S.
- June 6 – Juniors will take them at Animo Venice H.S.
ACT
- December 13
- February 7
- April 4
- June 13 – Juniors will take them at Animo Venice H.S.
- Begin Online Prep two weeks prior to test date
- Review two or more sections each evening for two weeks prior to the test
E. Rewards
1. Fun Night (suggestion): one night per week (Friday or Saturday night)
2. College Trip: Spring 2007 Agenda to the East Coast (students with 3.0 or above GPA)
3. Pizza parties for good grades; sponsored by the Parent Leadership
4. The Ultimate Reward: The COLLEGE of their choice Senior year.
